Is it ADHD or trauma?

Do you find it hard to focus on tasks? They’re piling up, but you can’t seem to prioritize what’s most important and you’re constantly feeling overwhelmed by all the brain space they take up? Like many, you might feel like you have ADHD, but it is important to know that ADHD and trauma have overlapping symptoms and understanding the differences can help guide your personal healing journey.

Venn Diagram comparing Trauma and ADHD symptoms

Formal ADHD diagnoses are on the rise. Perhaps this is not surprising due to an increase of ADHD awareness, but perhaps it has something to do with our rapidly changing world too. Technology is so fast and sometimes we forget that our brains are just human. Things around us move at light speed, but it is important to honour that we evolve at a much slower rate than technology. Sometimes healing asks us to pause and feel alright in the quiet. If this sounds scary or out of reach, you’re not alone.

If you feel like you are suffering from post traumatic symptoms, ADHD, or maybe even both— therapy can help. If you feel seen by this Venn diagram, reach out and we can talk about what the first steps to healing could look like. It is also advisable that you reach out to your doctor if you have further medical questions. Knowledge is power and it takes bravery to turn information into change.
